SV Investment Bets on Space Optical Communications [fn Market Watch]

[Financial News] SV Investment Corporation has bet on key components for space optical communications. Shinhan Venture Investment, InterVest, DaeKyo Investment, JB Ventures and others also joined the round, bringing 13.5 billion won to precision optical-mechanical company INCERASOLUTION. The company’s status as the only domestic firm nearing mass production of fast steering mirrors (FSMs) ahead of the era of inter-satellite laser communications helped attract investors.
According to the investment banking industry on the 1st, INCERASOLUTION has completed a 13.5 billion won Series A round. SV Investment Corporation, Shinhan Venture Investment and InterVest joined as new investors. Existing shareholders DaeKyo Investment, L&S Venture Capital, Innopolis Partners, SolidX and JB Ventures made follow-on investments. Financial investors who participated in the seed round also reopened their wallets, meaning most early shareholders joined the follow-on. The company’s cumulative fundraising has risen to about 17.4 billion won.
Founded in 2021, INCERASOLUTION is developing FSM and PAT (Pointing, Acquisition and Tracking) platforms based on precision actuation and control technologies. An FSM is an optical component that adjusts the direction of a laser beam in microradian units. It keeps the beam locked on target in laser links between satellites and between satellites and ground stations. The company has secured both piezoelectric and voice coil technologies in-house. It is expanding product supply and joint development with major domestic space and defense companies as well as government-funded research institutes.
It has also built a track record. After passing ground-based space environment tests, its space-grade FSM was selected as a payload for the second space verification satellite under the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA)'s support program for verifying domestically developed space components. The goal is to confirm on-orbit performance through the fifth Nuri (KSLV-II) launch, scheduled for Oct. 7, 2026, and secure space heritage, a key gateway to overseas exports. In the space parts market, on-orbit validation is effectively a qualification requirement. That is also where investors reflected value in this round.
The funds raised will be concentrated in three areas: expanding FSM mass-production facilities and equipment, advancing follow-up R&D for PAT, and developing global business and overseas markets. The company is shifting its focus from an early-stage, R&D-driven phase to product commercialization and mass production. It has also established a system that integrates development, production, testing and verification, and obtained KS Q 9100 certification, the quality management standard for the aerospace and defense industries. Its plan is to expand from components to systems and establish itself as a precision optical-mechanical solutions company. Precision optical control technology proven in space will also be applied to defense, semiconductors, advanced lasers and precision optics.
It has also begun targeting overseas markets. The company is in technical and business discussions with global space and optical communications firms, and is seeking customers and entry into global supply chains through international exhibitions and industry networks.
Market conditions are favorable. As low-Earth-orbit satellite networks expand to thousands of satellites, data transmission between satellites is shifting from radio waves to lasers. Demand for optical communication terminals (OCTs), which face no frequency allocation constraints and offer higher bandwidth and security, is bound to grow. At the same time, defense demand centered on drones and laser countermeasure systems is broadening the use of steering optics.
Joo Won Ahn, a researcher at DS Investment & Securities, said, "As the number of low-Earth-orbit satellite launches increases, the shift toward laser-based communications is becoming more pronounced, and components and systems that precisely aim and track beams are emerging as bottlenecks." He added, "In Korea's space value chain, investment interest is moving away from launch vehicles and buses toward payloads and core components."
Ahn added, "For space components, a track record of on-orbit validation is effectively an entry barrier, so the gap between companies that secure demonstration schedules and those that do not will widen." He said, "With defense exports expanding and the government increasing its space budget, visibility for orders among related companies is improving."
Kwon Young-kwan, CEO of INCERASOLUTION, said, "This Series A marks a turning point from a startup focused on technology development to a company that mass-produces products and supplies them to global customers." He added, "We will establish FSM commercialization and mass-production systems while expanding our product lineup to include PAT systems." He also said, "We will expand the precision optical control technology secured in space optical communications into defense and advanced industries, and supply core precision optical-mechanical products developed in Korea to the global market."
