Moorim and Academia Publish Korea's First Paper Engineering Textbook

[Financial News] Moorim Group has published the first major textbook tailored to Korea's pulp and paper industry, which has long relied on foreign-language textbooks.
According to Moorim on the 1st, it held a publication ceremony for the textbook "Paper Process Engineering: Fundamentals and Applications" in Seoul on Aug. 31 together with scholars from the pulp and paper field.
The book is the first paper engineering textbook written directly by professors in Korea. It was co-authored by 14 professors specializing in pulp and paper at eight major universities, including Seoul National University. Professor Emeritus Lee Hak-rae of Seoul National University served as head of the editorial committee.
Until now, departments related to pulp and paper in Korea have mainly used textbooks translated from overseas originals. Critics have said that this approach places too much emphasis on foreign industry structures and case studies, while also relying heavily on English and Chinese-style terminology, making it difficult for students to understand Korea's industrial realities.
In response, Moorim and the professors agreed on the need for a practical textbook that reflects the processes and technological trends of Korea's paper industry. The key goal of the publication is to connect the expertise required in the field with the curriculum and improve students' understanding.
The textbook covers everything from basic theories, such as the history of paper and raw materials, to the full range of paper-making processes, including pulp production, papermaking, and drying. It also includes production equipment, the latest technologies, and industry trends.
It also features visual materials from the field, including Korea's first large-scale fine paper production facility and the country's only pulp plant. The book was designed to help students connect the theories in the textbook with real industrial sites.
Moorim provided materials on production processes and key equipment. It also took part in the entire publication process, from supplying paper for the textbook to printing and binding.
Professor Emeritus Lee said, "It is highly meaningful that this is the first paper engineering textbook created through the combined efforts of a leading Korean paper company and academia," adding, "I hope it becomes a valuable milestone for students to learn and advance paper engineering."
Moorim CEO Lee Do-gyun said, "It is meaningful that this can help future talent grow," and added, "Through this textbook, I hope we can lay an academic foundation for Korea's pulp and paper sector and also provide the momentum that leads to the development of the future paper industry."
