Daegu Transportation Corporation and Daegu Urban Development Corporation appoint new chiefs

[Financial News, Daegu = Reporter Kim Jang-wook] Daegu Metropolitan City has appointed new heads for Daegu Transportation Corporation and Daegu Urban Development Corporation.
The city is also seen as having selected people with the expertise and execution capabilities needed to put the policy philosophy of the 9th elected administration into practice on the ground.
According to the city, Han Geun-su, head of the Future Mobility Research Division at Daegu Transportation Corporation, has been nominated as the new president of Daegu Transportation Corporation, while former Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) Daegu-Gyeongbuk regional headquarters chief Lee Jae-yong has been nominated as the new president of Daegu Urban Development Corporation.
Han Geun-su, the nominee for president of Daegu Transportation Corporation, graduated from the Department of Transportation Engineering at Hanyang University and earned both his master's and doctoral degrees in transportation engineering from the same graduate school. He later carried out numerous research projects at the Daegu Gyeongbuk Development Institute on city transportation policy, including a feasibility study on extending Subway Line 3 and a study on building a metropolitan rail network for the Daegu area.
He is also known as an expert with broad experience in both research and fieldwork in the local transportation sector, having served as head of Daegu Metropolitan City's New Airport Research Team and as director of urban space policy.
As the current head of the Future Mobility Research Division at Daegu Transportation Corporation, he has been recognized as the right person to lead the agency in serving as the control tower for Daegu's public transportation system, based on his experience and capabilities in building the nation's first local government-led MaaS platform and establishing DRT, which has helped fill gaps in public transit.
Lee Jae-yong, the nominee for president of Daegu Urban Development Corporation, majored in urban engineering at Keimyung University, earned a master's degree in urban planning from Hanyang University, and completed doctoral coursework in urban planning at Dankook University. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Urban Planning at Keimyung University.
He worked at LH for about 36 years from 1990 until his retirement in 2025, serving in a wide range of posts including head of the land development planning division, head of the industrial complex division, head of the urban regeneration planning division, and chief of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk regional headquarters. Through those roles, he built extensive expertise and field experience in urban development, including land development, housing construction, industrial complex development, and urban regeneration.
In particular, based on his experience leading major projects such as the construction of the Pyeongtaek U.S. military base, new town development including Pangyo New Town, national industrial complex projects including the Daegu National Industrial Complex, and the development of Jinju Innovation City, he was seen as the right person to drive key development projects such as the Daegu–Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport, military base relocation, and industrial complexes at a fast pace.
The city plans to appoint the nominees in early October after conducting background checks for disqualifying factors and holding confirmation hearings at the Daegu Metropolitan Council on the 8th for Daegu Urban Development Corporation and on the 9th for Daegu Transportation Corporation.
Meanwhile, the city began forming its executive recommendation committee for the corporations and public agencies in early July, and the selection process, including open recruitment, document screening, and interviews, has since been carried out. As a result, Daegu Transportation Corporation recommended three candidates and Daegu Urban Development Corporation recommended two candidates to Daegu Metropolitan City for the presidency.
