GGM Makes First Appearance at National Quality Innovation Competition, Proving On-Site Safety and Innovation Capabilities

[Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong] Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) made its first appearance this year at the National Quality Innovation Competition hosted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and all participating teams won awards, proving the safety and quality innovation capabilities of its production sites.
According to GGM on the 31st, four teams competed in the 2026 National Quality Innovation Competition (the 52nd National Quality Circle Competition), held from Aug. 24 to 28 at the Sori Arts Center of Jeollabuk-do in Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk State. All four teams won medals: one gold, one silver and two bronze awards, all equivalent to presidential honors.
The National Quality Innovation Competition recognizes and rewards outstanding quality circles that have contributed to improved quality and customer satisfaction through voluntary improvement activities by frontline workers.
The event this year was co-hosted by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) under the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Jeonbuk State, and organized by the Korean Standards Association (KSA). A total of 315 quality circles and individuals that advanced through regional preliminaries across the country competed on quality improvement results and on-site innovation cases.
GGM has operated quality circles since last year, allowing employees to study and improve problems at their workplaces on their own. Earlier this year, it selected outstanding quality circles through an in-house competition and then advanced through the Gwangju area preliminaries before making its first appearance at the national competition.
In particular, two quality circles and two individuals from GGM entered this year's competition, and all of them received awards.
In the individual category, Ahn Gyeong-in, group leader in the quality management department, won gold with a presentation titled "Reducing Work Risk by Improving Hazard Factors in Fixture Installation." Jeong Eun-hae, another group leader, won silver for "Improving Operating Rates Through Process Improvements on the Inspection Line."
In the team category, the Sangsaeng Nuri Team from the assembly department, led by Sub-B team leader Jeong Min-hak and seven others, presented "Reducing Risk Through Improvements to Hazard Factors in the Door Completion Process" and won bronze. The Seabed Team, led by Sub-C team leader Lee Ji-hyung and six others, also won bronze for its presentation, "Reducing Defect Rates Through Improvements to the Cockpit Process."
Park Yong-jun, head of GGM's Production and Quality Division, said, "Quality is the foundation that supports safety and the starting point of innovation practiced on the shop floor." He added, "This award is a public recognition of GGM's efforts to innovate quality by identifying risks that can arise on the production line and improving processes and work procedures to enhance safety and efficiency."
He added, "We will continue to listen to voices from the field and expand improvement and suggestion activities so that we can proactively identify even small risk factors and areas for improvement, and build a safer and more trusted GGM."
