Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education to Reflect Education Community's Views in Revision of Special Act

[Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong] The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education has opened a bulletin board on its website and will begin gathering opinions to reflect the voices of the education community in discussions on revising the Special Act on the Establishment of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.
According to the office, the bulletin board will be operated to help supplement shortcomings in the education sector under the current special act and to gather the wisdom of the education community in identifying special provisions and institutional improvements needed for the development of education in Jeonnam and Gwangju.
Superintendent of Education Kim Dae-jung said, "To faithfully reflect the needs of the education field in the special act, it is important to listen broadly to the voices of students, parents and school staff." He added, "We will carefully review the proposed opinions and develop them into practical revision items that reflect regional characteristics and the needs of the education field."
Key proposal areas include expanding educational autonomy, improving unreasonable regulations, resolving institutional difficulties at schools and in education administration, finding ways to realize local production for local consumption in education, nurturing talent for future strategic industries such as AI and semiconductors, and operating curricula that reflect regional characteristics.
In particular, the office plans to broadly collect diverse opinions raised in the education field and actively identify special provisions and institutional improvement tasks that can support major policies of the integrated special city office of education.
Opinions can be submitted by anyone in the education community, including students, parents and school staff, through the "Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special Act Revision Opinions" bulletin board on the office website.
The office will keep the bulletin board open on a permanent basis, but opinions submitted by Sept. 11 will be given priority review for this revision bill in line with the current schedule for revising the special act. Opinions received after that will be managed and reviewed as future revision tasks.
In addition, centered on the task force for the special act revision, the office plans to work with the relevant departments to comprehensively review the legal validity, feasibility and policy necessity of the submitted opinions. It will then submit selected education-related revision tasks to the relevant institutions so they can be reflected in and proposed as amendments to the special act after deliberation by the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City Council and the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City Support Committee under the Prime Minister.
