ECOPRO BM Launches 'All-Solid-State Battery Team'... "Building a Raw Material-to-Material-to-Cell Value Chain"

ECOPRO BM said on the 31st that it held a kickoff meeting on the 26th with related companies and research institutes to launch activities for the government's 'Super Eul Project.'
The Super Eul Project is a government R&D support program designed to foster key materials, parts and equipment companies that can secure world-leading or first-of-its-kind technologies and lead global supply chains. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Trade and Industry selected five companies, including ECOPRO BM, as Super Eul firms.
All-solid-state batteries are next-generation batteries that replace conventional liquid electrolytes with solid ones, improving safety and dramatically increasing energy density. They are considered suitable not only for electric vehicles but also for next-generation platforms such as humanoid robots.
ECOPRO BM plans to receive high-purity lithium sulfide (Li2S) from raw material suppliers and proactively develop solid electrolyte technology that controls multiple process variables, including crystallinity, impurity removal and particle size uniformity, with mass production in mind. Under the project, ECOPRO BM will develop high-performance solid electrolytes and supply them to domestic battery cell makers, which will then apply them to cells and continue with demonstration and verification work.
The project involves not only industry players but also research institutions and major universities, including the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and Hanyang University. It is being viewed as an 'all-solid-state industry-academia-research team' and is expected to support the government's plan to build an integrated value chain spanning the full cycle from raw materials to materials to cells and secure future growth engines.
ECOPRO BM has secured proprietary process technology in the sulfide-based solid electrolyte sector, a core material for all-solid-state batteries, and is operating a pilot plant with an annual capacity of 40 tons. The company plans to share its development roadmap with domestic cell makers and strengthen strategic cooperation with the goal of early commercialization of sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries in 2027.
Jeong Hyeon-su, head of future technology at ECOPRO BM, said, "Based on the success of the pilot stage, we will optimize mass-production processes to lower manufacturing costs." He added, "By advancing our differentiated process technology, we will help cell makers commercialize all-solid-state batteries without setbacks."
