[Financial News] Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of SK Biopharmaceuticals, bought 2,000 company shares. The purchase came shortly after the company announced the introduction of Opakalim.
SK Biopharmaceuticals said on the 31st that Lee bought 2,000 shares on the 27th at an average price of 90,898 won per share. The total purchase was worth about 180 million won.
The share purchase took place the day after the company announced the introduction of Opakalim on the 26th. SK Biopharmaceuticals secured global exclusive rights to Opakalim, as well as follow-on potassium channel (Kv7) activator compounds and related drug development platforms, from U.S. biotech company Biohaven Bioscience Ireland Limited. The deal is worth up to $795 million.
Opakalim is a selective Kv7 potassium channel activator and is currently in Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials for adult patients with partial seizures. SK Biopharmaceuticals aims to launch it in the U.S. market as early as 2029 if clinical and regulatory procedures proceed as planned.
SK Biopharmaceuticals plans to develop Opakalim as a next-generation growth driver following cenobamate, its in-house epilepsy treatment, sold in the U.S. as Xcopri. The company intends to leverage the Xcopri sales network it has built in the U.S. to turn Opakalim into its second commercialized product.
Yu Chang-ho, head of the strategy division who led the Opakalim licensing deal, also bought 500 company shares after key details of the agreement were made public.
Through Opakalim, SK Biopharmaceuticals plans to expand its epilepsy treatment portfolio and broaden its product lineup in the U.S. central nervous system (CNS) market.
