On July 31, the FSS said it will hold the "Public Report Event on Financial Consumer Protection Achievements" at its headquarters on Sept. 17, with about 250 participants including ordinary consumers, financial industry representatives, related institutions and outside experts. The event is intended to share the results of policies to strengthen consumer protection, which Lee Chan-jin, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, has emphasized since taking office, and to gather public opinions on future policy directions.
The FSS has made financial consumer protection a core task for all employees and has built a consumer protection system through supervision, inspections and dispute mediation. In December last year, it drew up a "Financial Consumer Protection Improvement Roadmap" and shifted to a more preventive supervisory framework, focusing on preventing consumer harm in advance.
The event will highlight examples of improvements in the financial sector, including changes in the development and sales process for financial products and stronger internal controls. Outside experts will also present tasks and future directions for strengthening consumer protection.
Members of the Financial Consumer Protection Advisory Committee, along with representatives from the legal community, media, civic groups and ordinary consumers, will join as panelists to discuss future tasks and take questions from the audience.
Any citizen can apply to attend the public report event. The application period runs until Sept. 8. Attendees will be selected by lottery from among applicants, and the results will be announced individually by Sept. 11.
Those unable to attend in person can watch the entire event live on the FSS’s official YouTube channel. Presentation materials, panel discussions and Q&A sessions will also be available later on the FSS website.
An FSS official said, "Through this report event, we will continue communicating with financial consumers and build a protection system that consumers can actually feel."
