According to KOTRY on the 31st, Choi Yong-jin, 56, died at Wonkwang University Sanbon Hospital on the 8th of last month and donated tissue, including bone, fascia, heart valves, blood vessels, and pericardium, the following day on the 9th. One person's tissue donation can help the recovery of more than 100 patients with functional disabilities.
Choi, who had undergone dialysis treatment for more than 10 years, told his family that he wanted to help others until the very end of his life. Following his wishes, which he had expressed in advance, his family decided to carry out the donation.
Choi's nephew, Choi Bu-won, said, "About two years ago, my uncle handed me his donor registration card and asked me to make sure he could donate if anything ever happened to him," adding, "Our family decided to honor his wishes."
Born as the youngest of three brothers, Choi suffered a serious injury to one leg in a traffic accident in his 20s. Although walking was difficult for him, he lived diligently, driving a village bus and working in used-car-related business until he began dialysis treatment in his early 40s.
Despite his health difficulties, Choi stayed in regular contact with acquaintances and lived with a positive attitude. He also loved cooking and shared homemade food with those around him, building warm relationships with others. To his nephews, he was a kind uncle like a friend, and a dependable adult they could lean on during difficult times.
His nephew Bu-won recalled, "He was not just my uncle, but also a friend, another father, and a trustworthy adult," adding, "The time I spent with him still remains vivid in my memory."
He went on to say, "It hurts even more because my uncle always tried to live positively and never lost his smile, even in difficult circumstances," and added his final farewell, "I hope he can now meet my grandmother and spend only peaceful, happy days."
