Volvo ES90 nears domestic launch as preorders top 3,000

[Financial News] Volvo Car Korea's next-generation all-electric flagship, the Volvo ES90, has completed certification of its driving range on a single charge in South Korea and will begin full-scale deliveries in October.
According to Volvo Car Korea on the 31st, the ES90 is the company's next-generation flagship model developed to carry the heritage of the sedan into the electric era. The company says it uses the flexibility of EV design to combine the elegance of a sedan, the practicality of a fastback and the versatility of an SUV in one body.
In particular, the vehicle is equipped with HuginCore, a next-generation intelligent platform developed in partnership with NVIDIA and Qualcomm, which the company says delivers advanced safety and a better user experience. In South Korea, it has been priced more than 50 million won lower than in Europe to help expand the premium EV market, and analysts say that pricing strategy has driven preorders past 3,000 units.
According to the latest update to the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment's KENCIS certification system for vehicle emissions and noise, the 106 kWh all-wheel-drive ES90 twin-motor model has been certified for a combined range of 520 km in moderate temperatures, including 548 km in the city and 486 km on highways. That is the longest range among imported premium models of the same class currently sold in South Korea, enough to drive about 400 km from Seoul to Busan and still have another 120 km left. In cold weather, it also achieved a combined range of 469 km, including 451 km in the city and 491 km on highways.
The ES90 is also Volvo's first model to adopt an 800V high-voltage system and new battery management software. Using a 350 kW fast charger, it can gain enough power to drive 300 km in just 10 minutes, and charging from 10% to 80% takes only 22 minutes.
These performance figures also affect subsidies. Under the 2026 electric vehicle subsidy guidelines, which take into account energy efficiency, driving range on a single charge, and battery efficiency and safety, the model is expected to receive up to 2.13 million won for the Single Motor ER version and 2.2 million won for the twin-motor version in Seoul. With environmental tax benefits applied, the 5-meter-class all-electric flagship could be purchased from 70.81 million won, depending on trim.
A Volvo Car Korea official said, "With domestic certification now complete, we plan to begin full-scale deliveries of the ES90 starting with the twin-motor model in October."
