[Financial News, Naju = Hwang Tae-jong] KEPCO Plant Service & Engineering Co., Ltd., a state-run company specializing in the maintenance of power facilities, has strengthened its reputation as a leader in quality by winning the Presidential Award for 30 consecutive years at the National Quality Innovation Contest, hosted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
According to KEPCO Plant Service & Engineering on the 31st, five teams competed in three categories — on-site improvement, safety quality and office support — at the 52nd National Quality Innovation Contest, held from July 24 to 28 at the Sori Arts Center of Jeollabuk-do in Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk State. All five teams won awards equivalent to the Presidential Award: two golds, two silvers and one bronze.
The National Quality Innovation Contest is held every year to recognize outstanding companies that have contributed to quality improvement through voluntary improvement activities at industrial sites across the country and to encourage quality innovation. This year, it was co-hosted by the National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Jeonbuk State and Jeonju-si, and organized by the Korean Standards Association (KSA).
KEPCO Plant Service & Engineering has consistently posted strong results at the contest, and this year again achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Presidential Award for 30 straight years based on its outstanding quality innovation efforts.
In the on-site improvement category, the 'Seed Team,' which won gold, was praised by judges after improving the 'reactor building air circulation cooling process,' cutting maintenance time by 53.27% and delivering three benefits at once: greater workforce efficiency, lower costs and a better maintenance environment.
In the safety quality category, the 'Perfect Team,' which also won gold, was highly rated for improvement activities from a PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) perspective. By improving the 'power facility maintenance process at a thermal power plant,' the team reduced the risk index by 39.53% and fundamentally eliminated risk factors.
Kim Hong-yeon, CEO of KEPCO Plant Service & Engineering, said, "We are deeply honored that our efforts to ensure the stability and safety of power generation facilities and create customer value through high-quality, zero-defect maintenance have been recognized." He added, "We will use this award as an opportunity to work even harder to become a sustainable 100-year company that prepares for the future."
Meanwhile, presentations by teams at the National Quality Innovation Contest are shared across industrial sites nationwide through the National Quality Award website, and the main awards ceremony will be held at the National Quality Management Convention in November at COEX.
