Democratic Party of Korea appoints Jung Tae-ho to Seoul Policy Planning Team... Kim Yong-nam named standing vice chair of Policy Committee

[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 31st that it had appointed Rep. Jung Tae-ho as head of the Seoul Policy Planning Team. It also named Kim Yong-nam, chair of the Pyeongtaek-eul district committee, as standing vice chair of the Policy Committee. Park Seong-jun, the party's chief spokesperson, told reporters after the Supreme Council meeting that day that additional party appointments had been announced.
The most notable point in the appointments was that the Seoul Policy Planning Team was formed to win public support in Seoul. Jung, who was named head of the team, is widely regarded within the party as a policy expert. As the Democratic Party of Korea's secretary on the National Assembly Planning and Finance Committee in the first half of the term, he helped pass major bills, including the Special Act on U.S. Investment.
The ruling party had recently been sensing growing unease among voters in Seoul through various opinion polls after unveiling its property tax reform plan. In response, the party appointed Jung, a policy specialist, to lead the team and instructed it to come up with solutions to difficult issues such as the real estate problem.
Meanwhile, Kim, who had a fierce three-way race with People Power Party lawmaker Yu Eui-dong and Cho Kuk, head of the Institute for Innovation Policy Studies, in a recent by-election, will also serve as standing vice chair of the Policy Committee.
Park also said the party would begin procedures to reappoint Kim Seung-won as secretary of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and Lee So-young as secretary of the Climate, Energy, Environment and Labor Committee, positions they had each held while serving as ministers of Justice and SMEs and Startups, respectively.
