[Financial News] The popular Agjak cake from Tous les Jours, operated by CJ Foodville, is gaining popularity in overseas markets after becoming a hit in South Korea.
According to Tous les Jours on the 1st, the three Agjak cake varieties launched in July at the Tous les Jours Senopati store in Jakarta, Indonesia, have been selling out early every day, creating a shortage.
First introduced in March at the main store, the Agjak cake has drawn major attention on social media since its domestic launch, thanks to its fruit-like appearance and the crisp texture that breaks with a single bite. It remains a hit product for Tous les Jours, with open-run crowds and early sellouts continuing at the main store and the TOUS les JOURS Gangnam Direct Store.
In August, Tous les Jours introduced three Agjak cake varieties at its company-operated stores in the western United States: La Habra, Cerritos and Brea.
In the United States, the local limited-edition name 'The Illusion Collection' was used to help consumers immediately understand the concept, highlighting the point that the products look like fruit on the outside but are actually cakes.
Despite their distinctive appearance, which resembles peaches, mangoes and pistachios, the desserts capture a surprising appeal by combining soft mousse and fruit filling in a cake.
A CJ Foodville official said, "Agjak cake has proven both its marketability and buzz value in South Korea by driving open-run crowds and early sellouts, making it a representative K-bakery product." The official added, "Following its success in Indonesia, we plan to deliver brand experiences in the United States, a key global market, and widely showcase the competitiveness of K-bakery."
