Ruling Party Says Ministerial Nominees Will Adjust Personal Views..."Confirmation Hearings to Be Completed Before Chuseok"

[Financial News] On the 31st, the Democratic Party of Korea said that the new ministerial nominees for the Lee Jae-myung administration would adjust their past views to align with the government's policy direction rather than cling to them. It also pledged to complete the confirmation hearing schedule before Chuseok to minimize any governance gap.
At a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly that day, Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok said, "Politicians express their own political convictions, but once they become part of the government, they also take on the role of a minister who represents and speaks for the administration." He added, "I think the premise is that they adjust their personal positions to fit the government's broader direction." Political observers said his remarks were aimed at countering the People Power Party's fierce criticism of the ministerial nominees.
In fact, the People Power Party has been reviving Kim Seung-won's past record, including his former role as co-head of the "Prosecution Dismissal Group," and is using his nomination as a link in its offensive against President Lee Jae-myung over prosecution-related issues. It is also criticizing Yong Hye-in by bringing up her past activities, including her role in leading efforts to enact an anti-discrimination law.
In response, Democratic Party parliamentary leader Han Byung-do defended the ministerial nominees.
Han said, "This cabinet reshuffle is a pragmatic appointment of talent that prioritizes expertise, field experience, and execution over seniority or background. It has completed the framework for a dynamic and youthful cabinet." He added, "The Democratic Party welcomes this lineup, which combines policy direction with strong implementation capacity."
He continued, "As soon as the nominations were announced, the People Power Party began hurling extreme insults, talking about a 'terror attack on state affairs' and a 'total social collapse.'" He said, "The hearings have not even been scheduled, yet they are already trying to stigmatize the nominees and pick them apart."
He added, "Throwing sand in the gears of the reshuffle before the vetting even begins is a declaration that they intend to turn the confirmation hearings into a political battle." He said, "The Democratic Party will thoroughly examine the qualifications and capabilities of public office nominees from the public's perspective. We will complete the confirmation hearing process for Cabinet nominees before the Chuseok holiday so that there is not a single moment of disruption in the Lee Jae-myung administration's governance."
