[Financial News] Karrot Market said on the 31st that its consolidated operating profit for the second quarter of this year came to 15.8 billion won, up 127% from the same period last year.
According to the Data Analysis, Retrieval and Transfer System (DART) of the Financial Supervisory Service, Karrot Market's consolidated revenue for the second quarter of this year rose 42% from a year earlier to 91.9 billion won.
For the first half, revenue reached 170.3 billion won and operating profit came to 20 billion won. That marked increases of 39% and 54%, respectively, from the same period last year.
On a separate basis, Karrot Market posted first-half revenue of 163.9 billion won and operating profit of 43.9 billion won, up 34% and 26%, respectively. Second-quarter revenue and operating profit came to 87.2 billion won and 25.1 billion won, both up 35% from a year earlier.
Karrot Market said the results were driven by steady growth in its core revenue source, the advertising business. Second-quarter advertising revenue rose 35% from a year earlier. As the platform expanded user touchpoints beyond used-goods trading into community, local business, part-time jobs, real estate and used cars, visits and time spent on the app increased, creating a virtuous cycle that is boosting advertising demand from local businesses, the company explained.
Growth in transaction services based on secure payments, including the nationwide expansion of Karrot Instant Buy for used-goods trading, also helped diversify its revenue base.
A Karrot Market official said, "As the advertising business continues to grow steadily and transaction services such as Instant Buy are also seeing more use, our revenue base is gradually becoming more diversified." The official added, "We will continue to pursue balanced growth by putting user experience first and strengthening both service competitiveness and our business foundation."
