According to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on the 30th local time, the Norwegian royal family announced, "The funeral for Harald V will be held at Oslo Cathedral in the capital, Oslo, starting at 1 p.m. on September 9." It was reported that Olav Fykse Tveit, the archbishop of the Church of Norway, will preside over the funeral rites.
According to the royal family, Harald V's coffin was moved from the hospital to the Royal Palace's Red Salon on the evening of the day he died, and it will be transferred to The Royal Palace Chapel on the afternoon of the 31st.
Public mourning will also be allowed. From 2 p.m. on September 1 until the day before the funeral, citizens will be able to file past the coffin and pay their final respects to King Harald V. On the same day, King Haakon VIII, who succeeded him, is scheduled to take an oath of allegiance at the Storting.
Harald V, who died at the age of 89 on the morning of the 28th, had enjoyed strong public support. During his 35-year reign, he was regarded as a symbol of an open and tolerant Norway. He was praised for leading a modern yet modest royal family, but in his later years, recurring health problems forced him to cut back on official duties.
