Hyundai Motor Group Brings in Vice President Hong Eun-hee as Head of HMG Energy & Hydrogen Division

[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 31st that it has appointed energy business expert Hong Eun-hee, a former executive at global energy company BP p.l.c., as the new head of the HMG Energy & Hydrogen Division.
Hong, a Vice President (VP), worked at BP p.l.c. for 18 years after stints at Procter & Gamble Korea and The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM). She has handled business development, strategy formulation and execution across a range of energy sectors, including oil, LNG, hydrogen and ammonia. She is widely regarded as the right person to review profitability and investment feasibility, while also planning and operating global energy and hydrogen business portfolios.
Hong also led the structuring and contract design of projects spanning the entire energy value chain, from resource development to long-term supply and transportation, including the Angola LNG project. Through that work, she demonstrated her ability to turn market opportunities into concrete businesses. Based on those achievements, she was named chief of staff to the head of BP p.l.c.'s technology organization in 2021, and later took charge of the hydrogen and ammonia business development unit established in 2022.
Since 2023, she has overseen BP p.l.c.'s global hydrogen business development team, contributing to the establishment of a global hydrogen business foundation by working with government agencies in major countries, responding to policy shifts, and identifying business models based on customer demand. Hyundai Motor Group expects Hong's execution capabilities and global network to help strengthen the competitiveness of its future energy business and accelerate the expansion of the hydrogen ecosystem.
Hong said, "Hyundai Motor Group is a company that has already built meaningful achievements across the entire hydrogen value chain, from fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) to clean hydrogen production and charging infrastructure." She added, "Based on my experience in global energy and hydrogen businesses, I will seek new business opportunities in Hyundai Motor Group's future energy sector and contribute to enhancing its global competitiveness."
A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "Hong Eun-hee is a global energy business development expert who has turned market opportunities into real businesses and delivered results through collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders." The official added, "With this appointment, we aim to secure leadership with global energy business experience and strategy, and further strengthen our ability to expand and commercialize our energy and hydrogen businesses globally."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group plans to upgrade its commercialization system for energy businesses, from strategy formulation and business development to investment review and partnership building, following this appointment. Based on that, the group aims to respond proactively to the energy paradigm shift, secure future growth engines, and strengthen the foundation for sustainable growth in its energy business. Former division head Ken Ramirez, a Vice President, is reported to have voluntarily resigned for personal reasons.
