A 10-meter Moon Rises Over Gangneung's Gyeongpo... Moonlight Art Show Opens on Sept. 1

[Financial News, Gangneung = Kim Gi-seop] Tourists visiting Gangneung will now have a new attraction to enjoy from day to night. 
According to Gangneung on the 31st, the Gyeongpo Moonlight Art Show, titled "My Moon," will begin operating at Gyeongpo Ecological Reservoir on Sept. 1. The event lets visitors project AI-generated images of themselves onto a 10-meter moon sculpture. Centered on the country's largest 10-meter LED installation, it will feature 17 media art works tailored to the seasons and to day and night, offering a fresh scene every time people visit.
The venue is Gyeongpo Ecological Reservoir, and it will be open daily from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visitors can use the parking lot at Gyeongpo Ecological Reservoir.
The most eye-catching program is an AI image-generation and projection experience that allows visitors to take part directly. It will run daily from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., and anyone can join for free without a reservation. The experience varies by age group. For those under 16, AI creates an image of their future self, while for those 16 and older, it generates an image of their childhood self and projects it onto the large moon sculpture. The unusual attraction is designed to stir memories and imagination across generations, leaving visitors with a special memory.


The operation will be divided into phases. During September, anyone can try it immediately by scanning a QR code available on site to receive an experience coupon. The goal is to raise awareness early and create a lively atmosphere. Starting Oct. 1, the program will shift to a local business partnership phase. Visitors who check in at two different partner locations, such as cafes, restaurants and lodging businesses in the city, by scanning an internal QR code will receive an experience coupon. The aim is to connect tourism content with local businesses, boost spending and help revitalize the regional economy.
Gangneung Mayor Kim Jung-nam said, "We will develop the inland area near Ojukheon into a new tourism hub with distinctive attractions such as the 10-meter moon sculpture and the AI experience." He added, "By working with local businesses such as cafes and popular restaurants, we will draw more visitors and breathe new life into the local economy."
