Ji-seon Hong, nominee for land minister, says she will deliver on housing supply and balanced regional development

[Financial News] Ji-seon Hong, nominee for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said she will expand the supply of high-quality housing in preferred areas and work to ensure housing stability for young people and newlyweds. 
On the 31st, Hong said in remarks on her nomination, "I am honored to be nominated as a candidate for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and at the same time I feel a heavy sense of responsibility and mission." She also suggested that, if given the chance to serve as minister, she would do her utmost to help build an "irreplaceable Korea."
On housing policy, she stressed that she would work to ensure high-quality homes are supplied quickly in locations preferred by consumers. In particular, she said she would carefully review related policies so that young people and newlyweds can live stably.
She also outlined plans to strengthen the foundation for region-led growth. By supporting mega projects and expanding transportation infrastructure, she said she aims to promote balanced national development while narrowing gaps in mobility by region.
Hong identified mobility as a future growth engine. She said she would push ahead in earnest so that the future mobility policies she has focused on can lead to concrete results.
She also presented safety management as a core duty. Hong said she would do everything possible to ensure safety management, one of the state's most important responsibilities, so that tragic accidents do not happen again.
Hong said, "I believe I have been given a very heavy responsibility at a difficult time," adding, "Drawing on my field experience from working in Gyeonggi Province and my expertise as Second Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, I will pursue practical policies that the public can feel, and I will communicate closely with the public, the National Assembly and stakeholders."
She said she plans to explain the details of her policy direction at the upcoming confirmation hearing. Hong added, "I will prepare for the hearing with sincerity and humility."
Hong began her public service career in 1996 after passing the second local civil service examination. She later served as director of the Construction Bureau in Gyeonggi Province, director of the Rail, Port and Logistics Bureau, director of the Urban Housing Division, and Deputy Mayor of Namyangju-si. In December last year, she was appointed Second Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. During her tenure as vice minister, she oversaw transportation and construction policy spanning roads, railways and aviation.
