[Financial News] Shinhan Bank is helping residents in Geoje and Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, recover from heavy rain damage by providing financial support, while also launching employee volunteer work and fundraising efforts.
Shinhan Bank said on the 31st that more than 100 employees from its Busan-Ulsan Headquarters, Busan Central Headquarters, and Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters visited Suwol Hillstate in Yangjeong-dong, Geoje, on July 29 and carried out flood recovery volunteer work.
Suwol Hillstate was hit by flooding in its underground parking lot after torrential rain fell on Geoje on the 17th, causing power and water outages. On the day of the volunteer work, employees helped with recovery by removing sludge from the underground parking lot and clearing waterlogged furniture and debris.
The support continued beyond the on-site volunteer work. At an executive meeting held on the 31st, about 70 employees, including Jung Sang-hyuk, CEO of Shinhan Bank, wrote messages of encouragement on postcards for flood victims. The completed postcards will be delivered, along with donated goods, to residents in 20 administrative villages under the jurisdiction of Dundeok-myeon in Geoje, where many are struggling to prepare meals.
Shinhan Bank is also running a donation campaign in which employees participate voluntarily. During September, it will operate a fundraising campaign through its employee donation platform, 'Beautiful Bank,' for households affected by heavy rain in the Geoje and Tongyeong areas.
Financial support for affected customers is also under way. Shinhan Bank is providing up to 50 million won in emergency living funds to individual customers affected by the heavy rain, and up to 500 million won in new working capital loans to business customers, helping residents and businesses quickly return to normal life and operations.
Meanwhile, Shinhan Financial Group has already delivered 200 million won through Shinhan Bank for recovery efforts and support for flood victims in South Gyeongsang Province, including Geoje and Tongyeong, and added another 500 million won at the group level, bringing total donations to 700 million won. The group also provided emergency relief kits containing daily necessities and medicines, as well as relief tents. It is carrying out a range of practical support measures, including emergency housing assistance for displaced residents and help with restoring public facilities and local infrastructure.
