3 out of 10 Missing Person Reports in Jeju, 'Falsely Closed': Police Officer Handles Closing Alone

/Photo=News1 [Financial News] It has been revealed that Police Officer A, who was arrested on charges of falsely closing missing person reports in Jeju, independently closed approximately 30% of missing person cases that occurred in the province while he was working in the missing persons team. According to data on the "Status of Missing Person Reports and Missing Persons" submitted by the National Police Agency to People Power Party lawmaker Kim Jae-seop on the 30th, a total of 298 adult missing person cases were closed independently by Officer A during the approximately 1 year and 4 months from March of last year to the end of July this year, while he was working in the missing persons team at the Jeju West Police Station.

This means that Sergeant A alone handled approximately 30% of the total cases in the province, based on both the filing and closing criteria. It is reported that the cases included are those that Officer A finalized after joint investigation by the missing persons team. Meanwhile, Officer A was arrested on charges of falsely closing the missing person reports for Ms.
Jang, a woman in her 30s who went missing last May, and Mr.
Park, a man in his 60s, last month.
The police are conducting a full investigation into all 298 cases handled by Officer A to determine if there are any other instances where he falsely closed missing person reports in addition to these cases.
