'The Odyssey' tops the box office for 26th straight day; 'The Journey to Gyeongju' leads Korean films

[Financial News] The film 'The Odyssey' continued its box office run by holding the overall No. 1 spot for 26 consecutive days since its release. 'The Journey to Gyeongju' ranked No. 1 among Korean films in its opening week.
According to the Korean Box Office Information System on the 31st, 'The Odyssey' drew 1,058,636 moviegoers from Aug. 28 to 30, topping the overall weekend box office for the fourth straight week. Since opening on the 5th, it has never once lost the top spot.
'The Odyssey' reaches 8 million in the shortest time in 2026
Among films released in Korea this year, only 'The King's Warden' and 'Colony' had previously topped the weekend box office for four consecutive weeks. Among imported films, 'The Odyssey' is the first to do so.
In its fourth weekend, 'The Odyssey' also outperformed the same-period figures of Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' (908,500), 'Exhuma' (712,630), and 'The Roundup: Punishment' (418,733). The film surpassed 8 million cumulative admissions in just 24 days, the fastest pace this year, and it remains No. 1 in overall advance ticket sales in its fifth week.
'The Journey to Gyeongju' leads Korean films for 5 straight days
Director Kim Mi-zo's 'The Journey to Gyeongju' ranked No. 1 among Korean films at the box office for five consecutive days amid the strong performance of imported titles. Competing with new releases such as 'The Odyssey' and 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' it drew the largest audience among Korean films in its opening week.
'The Journey to Gyeongju' is a family revenge drama about four mothers and daughters who set out on a journey after an eight-year wait for their youngest daughter, Gyeongju, who never returned from a school trip. Gong Hyo-jin, Lee Jung-eun, and Park So-dam star in the film.
The film is gaining word of mouth for its story about family love and the sisters' realistic emotional arcs, as well as the strong ensemble performances. It recorded a 93% score on CJ CGV's Golden Egg Index and a 9.17 rating on Naver's verified ticket buyer ratings.
