"The Wife Was Driving," Drunken Hit-and-Run Driver Lied; He Was an Active-Duty Police Senior Inspector [Video]

[Financial News] A serving police Senior Inspector, identified as A, has been booked after causing a drunk-driving hit-and-run and then claiming that his wife was the driver.
According to JTBC's 'Scandal Supervisor' on the 31st, the accident occurred on a road in Buk-gu, Gwangju, at around 11 p.m. on the 4th.
At the time, a passenger car rapidly approached the victim's vehicle from behind in the first lane. After overtaking it, the car turned on its right turn signal, then suddenly swerved left and hit the side of the victim's vehicle.
The suspect vehicle appeared to stop briefly, but the driver did not get out and instead drove against traffic in the opposite lane to escape. Suspecting drunk driving, the victim, B, immediately called the police.
Two days after the crash, a woman called the victim and claimed that she had been driving at the time of the accident. The woman, C, said, "There are circumstances my husband must not know about," and added, "I will make sure the compensation is generous."
However, the suspect's lawyer later reportedly told the victim that the actual driver was C's husband, A, and that he had been drinking at the time of the accident.
During the police investigation, C was also unable to clearly explain where she had departed from that day or the route she had taken. Nearby CCTV footage showed A, not C, getting into the driver's seat.
As the investigation tightened, A admitted that he had been driving. He reportedly told investigators that he had drunk one or two beers before the crash.
A was later identified as an active-duty Senior Inspector with the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station. The victim said he only learned that A was a police officer after related reports were published, and added that he had not received an apology from A.
Because the driver was switched and A was not breath-tested until two days after the accident, it is expected to be difficult to apply charges of drunk driving or dangerous driving causing injury.
The Gwangju Seobu Police Station, which took over the case, booked A on charges related to failure to take action after an accident and aiding a suspect's escape. Police reportedly suspended A from duty and placed him on standby on the 11th.
