Heavy Rain of Up to 100 mm per Hour in Ulsan's Bangojin Leaves Homes and Roads Flooded

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, heavy rain that began at 3:10 p.m. on the 30th in the Bangojin area of Dong District, Ulsan Metropolitan City, recorded 99 mm over one hour at the unmanned observation equipment at Ulgi Lighthouse by 4:10 p.m. The daily rainfall total then quickly exceeded 104.5 mm.
The disaster-level downpour left homes and roads in the area flooded, causing damage in rapid succession.
According to Ulsan Fire Headquarters, a report of flooding at a commercial building in Bangeodong, Dong District, was received at 3:27 p.m., and a total of 19 rain-related damage reports came in over the next hour. Fire authorities urgently deployed 19 vehicles and 77 personnel to the scene, focusing on drainage support and safety measures. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The worst-hit area was Bangeodong.

Water quickly rose inside 11 buildings, including a villa, a mill, and private homes in Bangeodong, prompting firefighters to carry out emergency drainage work and safety measures. In particular, rainwater pooled in the basement parking lot of an apartment complex in Bangeodong, and 5 tons of water were pumped out using a fire engine. At a clogged drain site in Ilsan-dong, drainage support totaling 13 tons was provided.
Damage to public facilities also continued. A road in Bangeodong was flooded, forcing traffic to be restricted, while another road showed cracks as the ground weakened, a phenomenon known as road splitting. In Hwajeong-dong, a manhole cover was forced open by pressure, creating a safety hazard. Fire authorities immediately controlled the scene and notified relevant agencies, including Dong District Office, requesting emergency restoration.
