[Financial News] Han Dong-hoon, an independent lawmaker who served as justice minister under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, criticized Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Seung-won, whom President Lee named as a nominee for justice minister, on the 30th. Han said Kim would try to push for the dismissal of charges in Lee's five trials.
In a post on social media that day, Han claimed, "Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won is the head of the 'Lee Jae-myung charge dismissal meeting,' so more than anyone else, he would shamelessly invoke the justice minister's power to direct investigations by prosecutors and drop the charges against Lee Jae-myung." He added, "It appears he was nominated as a condition for dropping the charges because he was too afraid of Jeong Seong-ho to run away."
In fact, Kim said at a Democratic Party lawmakers' workshop on the 28th that he would push for the introduction of a special prosecutor to investigate alleged prosecutorial fabrication of indictments, and added that opinions on dropping charges had also been collected.
Han also pointed out, "Kim was the lawyer for Nam Wook, a co-defendant in the Daejang-dong case, and he publicly opposed and relentlessly attacked Lone Star Funds' appeal, which protected 7 trillion won in taxpayer money." He added, "He also took the lead in abolishing prosecutors' supplementary investigative authority, which put all citizens at risk." Han concluded, "He would ruin the country if he became justice minister."
