[Financial News] Lee Won-joo, who was appointed on the 30th as the newly created Presidential Office mega-project aide, is regarded as a seasoned industry bureaucrat with expertise in the energy sector.
Born in 1971, she graduated from the Department of Economics at Seoul National University and entered public service after passing the 40th Higher Civil Service Examination.
At the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, she served as director of the Corporate Cooperation Division and the Growth Promotion Division. At the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, she held posts as director of the Power Industry Division, the Automobile and Aviation Division, and the Industrial Policy Division.
After being promoted to director general, she served as director for Materials, Parts and Equipment Cooperation, director for Power Innovation Policy, director for Energy Transition Policy, and director for Energy Policy. As a bureau chief, she has also served as Director General for Planning and Coordination, spokesperson, and director of the Energy Policy Bureau. Since the launch of the climate ministry last year, she has been in charge of the Energy Transition Policy Bureau.
The Energy Transition Policy Bureau oversees the power industry, power grids, renewable energy, and the nuclear power sector.
