Hanwha Holds Space Conference... Consensus Grows on Need for a Korean Version of SpaceX

[Financial News] Hanwha Group said on the 30th that it held the Hanwha Space Conference (Space, with us) and spent time exploring the meaning and future of space from a range of perspectives.
The conference, held on the 29th at CUBE Convention Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo District, Seoul, featured a relay of lectures by science communicator Orbit, Jeon Eun-ji, a professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), space analyst Jeong Ui-hun, author Jo Seung-yeon, and astronomer Ji Woong-bae.
Hanwha Group said the conference highlighted the shift in the global space industry from government-led development to private-sector leadership. It added that many attendees agreed on the need for a Korean version of SpaceX to represent South Korea.
Hanwha Group plans to invest a total of 55 trillion won in the aerospace and artificial intelligence industries by 2040. The company aims to build an integrated space infrastructure covering independent launch vehicles, satellite networks, and defense AI, while focusing on creating a space and aviation industrial belt that organically connects Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, where Hanwha Group's Mobile Tactical Cannon program is located, Sacheon, home to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), the space center in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, and the Hanwha Space Center in Jeju Province.
A Hanwha Group official said, "Through this event, we were able to confirm the high level of interest in the space industry," adding, "We will do our utmost to build space industry infrastructure and nurture future generations so that South Korea can emerge as a leading AI space power."
