[Financial News] Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) said on the 30th that it held the Korea-India Business Partnership Plus and a strategy meeting on expanding trade and investment in South Asia in New Delhi, India, for three days starting on the 27th.
The event was organized as a follow-up measure after President Lee Jae-myung's state visit to India in April, as the two governments moved to accelerate economic cooperation. It was linked to the 2026 Korea Industry Expo and consisted of a Korea-India economic and trade cooperation forum, business meetings and a strategy meeting on expanding trade and investment.
In relation to economic cooperation between Korea and India, the Korean government held an expert meeting chaired by the Minister of Trade and Industry in May to discuss ways to expand industrial and supply chain cooperation with India. India, for its part, has also been working to create a business-friendly environment for Korean companies, with the Prime Minister’s Office designating the fourth week of June as "Korea Week."
In fact, the two countries are moving to speed up economic cooperation by resuming negotiations to improve the Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which took effect in 2010, after a two-year pause.
In step with that momentum, KOTRA held the Korea-India Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum on the 27th at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre) in New Delhi under the theme of improving the Korea-India CEPA and expanding economic cooperation. More than 200 businesspeople and government and institutional officials from both countries attended the forum, which was divided into two sessions: ways to expand trade and investment between Korea and India, and ways to broaden industrial and supply chain cooperation.
Speakers from institutions in both countries stressed that, starting with the resumption of CEPA improvement talks, Korea and India will gradually establish themselves as indispensable partners in strategic industries such as semiconductors, electronics and energy, and urged both sides to make full use of the opportunities to expand economic cooperation.
The three-day business meeting focused on broadening India's exports beyond intermediate goods to consumer products. At the consultation session centered on consumer goods such as K-beauty and K-food, 39 Korean companies and 41 Indian buyers held 450 meetings worth about $20 million, raising export potential.
KOTRA also held the 2026 Strategy Meeting on Expanding Trade and Investment in South Asia on the 28th at its New Delhi trade office. Chaired by Kang Kyung-sung, the meeting was attended by the heads of nine trade offices, including six in India and others in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Participants focused on the status of economic cooperation commitments made after the April tour and refined support plans for companies in the second half of the year.
Kang Kyung-sung, president and CEO of KOTRA, said, "As we enter an era of economic security and global supply chain restructuring, the scope for cooperation between Korea and India is growing, and the perception of each other as strategic partners has become even firmer since the April state visit." He added, "We will take the lead in continuously finding business cooperation opportunities for Korean companies in India and in more than doubling bilateral trade, which stands at $25 billion a year, by 2030."
