[Financial News] Blue Industrial Development is accelerating its move toward higher-value products after strengthening its cost competitiveness. The company plans to add BIOX's functional packaging technology to its business structure, which spans from raw material procurement to paperboard and corrugated box production, in order to lift both its product mix and profitability.
According to industry sources on the 31st, Blue Industrial Development has begun expanding business synergies with BIOX, which it completed acquiring a stake in last July. BIOX is a specialized functional packaging company that produces tape-free boxes, waterproof and cooling boxes, and micro-corrugated products.
Until now, Blue Industrial Development produced paperboard, while its subsidiary Blue Package processed it into corrugated materials and boxes. With BIOX now part of the group, the company has broadened its business into special processing and eco-friendly packaging, creating a value chain that runs from raw materials to finished functional products.
The key is not simply to increase output, but to upgrade the product mix. Standard corrugated boxes are highly exposed to swings in raw material prices and selling prices, while functional packaging can be differentiated through technology and processing capabilities.
BIOX's flagship product, the "tape-free box," can be assembled without adhesive tape. Its waterproof and cooling boxes, which use an eco-friendly coating, target packaging markets for fresh food and agricultural and marine products, areas traditionally dominated by Expanded Polystyrene (EPS). The company also offers industrial products such as F- and G-flute micro-corrugated materials and vapor-phase rust preventive paper.
Notably, the addition of functional products comes as Blue Industrial Development has recently restored profitability by improving its cost structure.
In effect, the company is shifting its focus beyond simply lowering costs and toward raising added value from the same production base.
An industry official said, "The corrugated box industry is highly vulnerable to raw material prices and selling prices, so product differentiation is the key to improving profitability," adding, "How quickly companies expand their share of functional and eco-friendly products will be a key point to watch in future earnings."
A Blue Industrial Development official said, "BIOX has development and processing technologies that can leverage our paperboard production base while expanding our product lineup into high-value corrugated boxes and eco-friendly packaging materials," adding, "We will combine our existing production base with functional packaging technology to strengthen product competitiveness."
