Lee Hae-min on nomination as Cheong Wa Dae AI chief: "We need to raise national strength through AI"

[Financial News] Lee Hae-min, the RKP lawmaker nominated on the 30th as Cheong Wa Dae's Senior Presidential Secretary for AI Future Planning, said he would help strengthen the Lee Jae-myung administration's national AI strategy and boost the country's overall strength.
Lee made his position known shortly after his nomination through social media. He said, "I believe we need to raise national strength by one level through AI," adding, "As a Cheong Wa Dae official, Lee Hae-min will serve as a control tower for the Lee Jae-myung administration's national AI strategy, driving industrial innovation and service changes that people can feel." He has built expertise in science and technology through roles at major big tech company Google and as Chief Product Officer at OpenSurvey.
Meanwhile, Lee also appeared to address recent divisions within the broader progressive camp. He said, "Now is the time for recovery, beyond the divisions that have existed within the democratic camp over the past few months," and added, "I will do my part as a bridge, even if only in a small way." Tensions among supporters in the broader progressive camp have recently intensified over the merger issue between the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and the RKP. Political observers are also saying that Lee's appointment to Cheong Wa Dae was a personnel decision by President Lee Jae-myung aimed at unifying the broader progressive camp.
