61 retired teachers who led Jeju education receive government honors, including four Order of Service Merit awards

[Financial News, Jeju = Jung Yong-bok] Sixty-one teachers who are ending their careers in Jeju's classrooms received government honors. From the Order of Service Merit to the Minister of Education Commendation, the ceremony recognized teachers who have devoted years to schools and encouraged them as they begin a new chapter.
According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education on the 30th, the office held the "2026 Government Awards Ceremony for Teachers Retiring at the End of August" on the morning of the 28th in the main conference room.
A total of 61 people were honored. By award category, four received the Order of Service Merit, Red Stripes, 12 the Order of Service Merit, Red Stripes, 19 the Order of Service Merit, 18 the Order of Civil Merit, two the Service Merit Medal, three the Presidential Commendation and three the Minister of Education Commendation.
The Order of Service Merit is a government decoration given to public officials and private school teachers who have made distinguished contributions through long and dedicated service. It has five classes, from the First Class Order of Service Merit to the Order of Service Merit, Red Stripes, the Order of Service Merit, the Order of Service Merit, Green Stripes and the Order of Civil Merit. For retiring teachers, length of service is the key factor in determining the award level.
In general, those with 40 years or more of service receive the Order of Service Merit, while those with 38 to under 40 years receive the Order of Service Merit, Red Stripes. Teachers with 36 to under 38 years receive the Order of Service Merit, and those with 33 to under 36 years receive the Order of Civil Merit. Those with 30 to under 33 years receive the Service Merit Medal, 28 to under 30 years the Presidential Commendation, 25 to under 28 years the Prime Minister's Commendation, and 15 to under 25 years the Minister of Education Commendation. The First Class Order of Service Merit is specially recommended for university presidents and others with similar careers.
Retired teachers who wished to attend, along with their families, joined the ceremony. Superintendent Go Ui-sook personally presented the awards.
The Jeju education office organized the ceremony to honor the retiring teachers for their contributions to student education and the development of Jeju education, and to wish them well in their new lives after teaching.
Go said, "I would like to express my gratitude and respect for the dedication of the teachers who have led the development of Jeju education," adding, "I also support you as you begin a new journey in life."
