Husband Who Caught Wife's Affair Evidence with a Robot Vacuum Won Civil Suit, but Got a Prison Sentence... Why?

[Financial News] A man in Taiwan used a robot vacuum to secure evidence of his wife's affair and won a civil lawsuit, but he was later sentenced to prison for invading privacy himself.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 27th, a Taiwanese man identified as A became suspicious of his wife's infidelity after finding a toothbrush in a vacation home that he only visited during the holiday season.
He later checked the parking lot CCTV and saw a man driving his wife home.
About three months later, A used the camera and remote-control features built into a robot vacuum to check what was happening inside the house.
The footage showed his wife spending private time with another man, and A recorded the scene to secure evidence of the affair.
He then filed a damages suit against his wife and her lover, seeking 2 million New Taiwan dollars, or about 87 million won, using the video as evidence.
The court acknowledged the wife's infidelity and ordered her to pay A 500,000 New Taiwan dollars, or about 21 million won.
But the case then took an unexpected turn. His wife filed a complaint, saying he had filmed her private moments without her consent.
In the end, A was sentenced to five months in prison and fined 150,000 New Taiwan dollars, or about 6.25 million won, on charges including illegal filming. He had won the civil case by exposing his wife's affair, but the robot vacuum footage he used in the process came back as a criminal penalty.
