Rain or Shine, Temperatures Reach 33 C... Rain to Continue in Jeju's Mountain and Mid-Mountain Areas Through the 31st

[Financial News, Jeju = Reporter Jung Yong-bok] Rain will continue over Jeju Province's mountain and mid-mountain areas through the last weekend of August, but the heat is not expected to let up.
According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 29th, the island will be mostly cloudy, with rain falling in some areas, mainly in the mountains and mid-mountain regions. The coast may see brief light rain at times, but there will be many periods without precipitation.
Expected rainfall for the 29th is 5 to 40 mm across Jeju Island. The amount and duration of rain will vary widely by area. Rain is more likely to continue in mountain and mid-mountain areas such as Sanchundan, Hannam, and Seongpanak, while coastal areas including Jeju City, Seogwipo, Seongsan, and Gosan are forecast to see occasional rain under cloudy skies.
On the 30th, the rain will again focus on the mountain and mid-mountain areas. On the 31st, occasional rain is expected in some places through late afternoon.
From the 30th through late afternoon on the 31st, rainfall is expected to total 10 to 60 mm. On Sept. 1, skies will be partly cloudy at times before turning gradually overcast at night.
Even with rain, the late-summer heat will continue. Jeju Province's daytime high on the 29th is forecast at 31 to 33 C. Jeju City could reach 33 C, while Seogwipo, Seongsan, and Gosan are expected to hit 31 C. That is higher than the seasonal average daytime high of 28.1 to 29.3 C.
Daytime highs are also forecast at 31 to 33 C on the 30th. On the 31st, temperatures are expected to reach 30 to 31 C, and the same range is forecast to continue on Sept. 1. Morning lows will also remain high. The low on the 30th is expected to be 26 to 27 C, and around 26 C on the 31st.
The Korean Meteorological Administration said tropical nights may continue in some areas for the time being and urged people to take care of their health. A tropical night is when the overnight low does not fall below 25 C, meaning the heat accumulated during the day does not cool sufficiently overnight.
On the 28th, Jeju Province recorded overnight lows of 25.5 to 26.9 C and daytime highs of 30.7 to 32.4 C, extending the above-normal temperatures.
At sea, caution is needed against high waves, especially in offshore waters through the morning of the 29th.
Waves off Jeju Island are expected to reach 0.5 to 2.5 meters. In the southern outer offshore waters of Jeju Island, waves may rise to 1.5 to 3.0 meters in the morning, and the East China Sea is also forecast to see waves of 1.5 to 3.0 meters. South winds or southwest winds of 9 to 14 meters per second are expected in the southern outer offshore waters of Jeju Island.
The meteorological agency said roads may be slippery and visibility may be reduced in some areas as rain continues mainly in the mountain and mid-mountain regions, and it urged drivers to be careful.
