Trump Signs Executive Order to Establish Space Force Academy

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on the 28th local time to establish a Space Force academy aimed at nurturing the next generation of engineers, civilian operators and skilled service members.
According to foreign media including The Hill, Trump visited the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center of NASA in Houston, Texas, and announced the creation of the Space Force academy. "I created the United States Space Force, the sixth branch of the U.S. military, during my first term, and today I am about to make another historic announcement," he said. He signed the executive order and delivered a commemorative speech.
Trump said, "This is a very important matter." He added, "Think of West Point, Annapolis, the Air Force Academy and the Coast Guard Academy. They are all great schools, but now we will have a Space Force academy." He went on to say, "We will have the school that everyone in this room likes the most."
In the executive order, Trump instructed the creation of a presidential commission to report key details for establishing the academy within 120 days.
The commission will be chaired by Jared Isaacman, the NASA administrator, and include Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the Air Force secretary as members.
Trump stressed that the space sector is essential to the economy and national security, saying, "Second place in space cannot be first on Earth."
At the event, Trump also awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the crew of Artemis II, the crewed spacecraft that recently completed a lunar mission and returned to Earth.
