[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump posted a chart on social media on the 28th (local time) that ranked himself as the greatest American president in history.
Trump uploaded a chart on Truth Social that divided 34 former U.S. presidents into six tiers. In the top category, "The Greatest," only Trump's name appeared.
George Washington, the nation's first president, and Abraham Lincoln, who helped end slavery, were placed one tier below Trump in the "Great" category. Theodore Roosevelt Jr., who pushed for the construction of the Panama Canal, was listed in the "Near Great" category.
By contrast, former Democratic presidents such as Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., Barack Obama, and Jimmy Carter were classified in the lowest tier, "Failure."
Newsweek noted that the chart resembled one published in Life magazine in November 1948. That chart was compiled by noted American historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. after surveying 55 historians. Newsweek pointed out that Schlesinger's chart did not include a "The Greatest" category. It added that Trump largely kept Schlesinger's framework but inserted a new top tier with his own name and added many Democratic figures to the "Failure" category.
Newsweek also pointed to a survey released the previous day as a possible reason Trump posted the chart. In a poll conducted by CNN in partnership with SSRS, 53% of Republican respondents named Trump when asked which president they admired most. In the same survey, 18% chose former President Ronald Reagan, while 8% mentioned Lincoln.
