Cho Hee-dae Says He Is Sorry for Causing Concern Over Cheong Wa Dae's Request to Re-nominate Supreme Court Justice Candidates, Will Announce His Position Next Week

[Financial News] Cho Hee-dae, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Korea, said he was sorry to the public after receiving a request from Cheong Wa Dae to re-nominate candidates for Supreme Court justice. He said specific response measures, including the re-nomination process, would be reviewed and announced next week.
Speaking to reporters as he left the Supreme Court Building in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 28th, Cho said, "First, I am sorry for causing concern to the public."
Regarding Cheong Wa Dae's request for re-nomination, he added, "The details are under review," and "I will officially inform you once everything is finalized next week."
He also declined to give a direct answer on the possibility of forming a new Committee of Recommendation of Supreme Court Justice Candidates and restarting the nomination process from scratch. Cho said, "I will explain everything once it is settled next week."
He did not offer a separate response to follow-up questions about whether Cheong Wa Dae was asking him to re-nominate one of the three previously recommended candidates, or about his position on the matter.
Earlier in the day, Cheong Wa Dae did not submit the consent motion for the appointment of Judge Son Bong-gi of the Daegu District Court, who had been nominated as the successor to former Supreme Court Justice Rho Tae-ak, and instead asked Cho Hee-dae to re-nominate a candidate. It had been 10 days since Cho submitted Judge Son's nomination in writing.
