Man in his 30s Arrested and Sent to Prosecutors After Buying Meth on Social Media and Using It Again

[Financial News] A man in his 30s who bought methamphetamine through social media and repeatedly used it has been sent to prosecutors while in custody.
The Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Investigation Unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 28th that it had arrested and sent A to prosecutors on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
A is accused of buying 1 gram of methamphetamine last month through Telegram from an unidentified seller in an off-site transaction at his home in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, together with accomplice B, and then dividing it into 0.05-gram portions and using it several times.
It was also confirmed that A had previously been caught by police in June on suspicion of using methamphetamine. At the time, he was detained by officers who responded to a 112 Police Emergency Number call for protective action, but he bought and used meth again about a month later.
Police uncovered A's crime while investigating a Telegram-based methamphetamine sales channel. They identified A by comparing and analyzing CCTV footage near the crime scene with past arrest videos posted on the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's official YouTube and Instagram accounts.
Police arrested A on the 19th and immediately sought an arrest warrant. The Seoul Central District Court issued the warrant on the 21st, citing concerns that he might flee. Police investigated B without detention and later sent him to prosecutors as well.
A police official said, "We will continue to investigate drug distribution and drug-use crimes carried out online and respond firmly."
