[Financial News] A woman in her 20s said she felt offended after receiving a set of lace underwear as a gift from her boyfriend's father. The underwear was reportedly prepared in the size her boyfriend had told him, drawing criticism online.
A post recently appeared on an online community under the title, "My boyfriend's father bought me an underwear set... isn't this creepy?"
The poster, identified as A, said she is 25 years old. She added that she has been dating her boyfriend for about two years and that marriage has also come up in conversation.
The gift was handed over after dinner at her boyfriend's family home. A said, "We had dinner together at my boyfriend's parents' house last week, and his father suddenly said he had something to give me separately and handed me a shopping bag," adding, "When I got home and opened it, there was a set of women's underwear inside."
A said she was taken aback after checking the type of underwear. She explained, "It wasn't just thermal wear or pajamas. It was a bra and panty set with lace. For a moment, I thought he might have given me the wrong thing, so I called my boyfriend, and he said his father had personally picked it out for me."
What shocked her even more was that the size was correct. A said, "I had never even told my boyfriend my underwear size properly, so when I asked how he knew, he said he had once seen my laundry at our house and vaguely remembered it, then told his father."
Her boyfriend's reaction made her even more uncomfortable. A said, "When I got angry and asked why he would tell his father something like that, my boyfriend said his father had gone to a department store and picked out a gift for his future daughter-in-law, so what was the problem? He even said I was the one making it weird."
Her boyfriend's father later contacted her directly. A said, "What made me feel worse was that his father sent me a separate message on KakaoTalk today saying, 'The size fits well, right? Try it on, and if it's uncomfortable, I'll exchange it for you,'" adding, "When I didn't reply, he even sent a smiling emoji."
A said she could not even keep the gift inside her home. She said, "I felt so sick that just looking at the shopping bag gave me chills, so I left it outside the front door," and asked, "My boyfriend says I'm insulting a kind gesture by calling it creepy and wants me to apologize. Am I being too sensitive?"
She also expressed anxiety about the relationship ahead of marriage. A said, "Honestly, I'm so embarrassed that my boyfriend told his father my size, and I think both of them are out of their minds," adding, "I'm scared that if I marry into this family, they'll treat even worse things as if they're nothing."
Most online users sympathized with A. They responded with comments such as, "It's hard to understand why the boyfriend told his father her underwear size," and "She should seriously reconsider the relationship right away."
