"Shared Goal of Protecting Human Rights"...Seoul Gangbuk Police Station and Seoul Bar Association Hold Working-Level Meeting

[Financial News] Police joined forces with the legal community to better protect suspects' right to defense and improve trust in investigations.
According to police on the 28th, Seoul Gangbuk Police Station held a meeting with the Seoul Bar Association on the 26th. The two sides discussed various ways to protect suspects' rights and human rights, while strengthening mutual respect and cooperation between police and lawyers.
The meeting was promoted as part of the Seoul Public Safety Partners initiative. It was designed to share practical difficulties arising in actual investigations and to build a fair investigative environment based on mutual respect.
The two organizations agreed that the public's rights and interests can be properly protected only when law enforcement by investigative agencies and the right to assistance from defense counsel are in balance. They also agreed to keep a continuous communication channel in place, rather than treating the meeting as a one-time event, in order to raise public trust in the criminal justice process as a whole.
Seoul Gangbuk Police Station plans to continue regular consultations with the Seoul Bar Association and expand efforts to build an investigation environment centered on citizens' human rights by linking with various organizations in the community.
Kim Tae-hyun, chief of Seoul Gangbuk Police Station, said, "Police and lawyers share the common goal of protecting the public's basic rights and human rights." He added, "By communicating with the Seoul Bar Association, a Seoul Public Safety Partners member, and respecting each other's roles, we will ensure the right to assistance from defense counsel in a practical way and create a fair investigative environment that the public can trust."
