Jeonbuk Also Calls for Mega Projects

[Financial News, Jeonju = Reporter Kang In] Jeonbuk State will begin in earnest to identify strategic projects that can serve as future growth engines, in step with the government’s expanded investment in major national projects, including the Seven SEED Projects and Three Mega Projects.
According to Jeonbuk State Government on the 30th, it recently held a kickoff meeting for the Jeonbuk Mega Project Discovery Task Force and discussed strategies for identifying mega projects linked to government policy and the direction of the 9th popularly elected provincial administration.
The task force was created to proactively plan large-scale projects that could reshape Jeonbuk's industrial structure and future competitiveness. It aims to analyze the government's national fiscal investment direction, the 123 National Policy Tasks, and the Seven SEED Projects, combine them with Jeonbuk's strengths, and turn them into national projects and budget allocations.
In particular, it plans to focus its capabilities on fostering growth engines by linking Green Hydrogen, Advanced Robotics, and Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Biotechnology, which were selected as Jeonbuk's three growth engines, with seven policy support packages covering regulatory exceptions, R&D, and fiscal support.
Key areas for discovery include building a full-cycle industrial ecosystem that connects Green Hydrogen production, transport, and utilization based on Saemangeum's renewable energy strengths; integrating Physical AI with existing flagship industries such as commercial vehicles, special-purpose vehicles, carbon materials, and secondary batteries in connection with Hyundai Motor Company’s investment; and advancing high-value-added industries, R&D, and commercialization by combining agriculture, life sciences, medical care, biotechnology, and AI.
The task force will consist of seven divisions: economy and jobs, future new industries, agriculture and life sciences, culture, sports and tourism, Saemangeum and fisheries, balanced regional development and SOC, and environment and education.
Jeonbuk State plans to operate the task force through December with the goal of identifying at least 10 large-scale projects worth more than 300 billion won each.
Ko Jeong-sam, vice governor for economic affairs of Jeonbuk State, said, "In an era of industrial transformation led by the AI revolution, it is important not to simply follow government policy, but to prepare future projects in advance based on Jeonbuk's strengths." He added, "We will thoroughly review the linkage to government policy, project feasibility, and implementation potential of the projects identified, improve their completeness, and respond actively so they can lead to national projects and national budgets."
