Korean Meteorological Administration and Korea Power Exchange to Expand Use of Renewable Energy Weather Information

[Financial News]  As renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power expand, the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Korea Power Exchange (KPX) will broaden the use of weather information needed for renewable energy production and operations.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 28th, KMA Commissioner Lee Mi-seon and KPX Chairman Kim Seong-jin held a meeting at Government Complex Daejeon to discuss cooperation in the weather and energy sectors.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in response to rising electricity demand driven by the spread of AI and the transition to renewable energy.
Solar and wind power generation can fluctuate significantly depending on weather conditions such as sunlight, cloud cover and wind. As the share of renewable energy grows, weather information used to forecast output becomes increasingly important for stable power supply and demand management.
The Korea Meteorological Administration plans to expand weather services related to renewable energy that can be used in the power sector.
KMA Commissioner Lee Mi-seon said, "Weather information is becoming even more important as the share of weather-sensitive renewable energy such as solar and wind power expands." She added, "We will expand renewable energy weather services needed on site so that weather information can be used more effectively in renewable energy production."
