Badabuchaegil Selected as Gangneung's Recommended Travel Destination for September... Ideal for Early-Autumn Coastal Trekking

【Financial News Gangneung=Reporter Kim Gi-seop】Jeongdong and Simgok Badabuchaegil, a trekking destination where visitors can walk between coastal cliffs and the sea while feeling the cool ocean breeze, has been chosen as Gangneung's representative travel spot for September.
According to Gangneung on the 28th, Jeongdong and Simgok Badabuchaegil was selected as the recommended travel destination for September to mark the 2026-2027 Year of Visiting Gangneung. Under the theme, "At the edge of the waves, meet the sea up close," the city suggested a trip that combines coastal scenery with early-autumn trekking.
Badabuchaegil is a walking trail built along a coastal terrace designated as a natural monument. Unlike many coastal promenades that overlook the sea from above, this trail is designed so visitors walk between the cliffs and the water, offering a close-up view of the East Sea. Along the route, dramatic rock formations and scenic coastal views unfold, allowing visitors to experience a more relaxed side of Gangneung's sea than in midsummer.
After touring Badabuchaegil, it is easy to continue on to attractions in Gangneung's southern area. At Jeongdongjin station, known as the station closest to the sea, visitors can enjoy a landscape where the railway and the East Sea come together. At Sandglass Park, they can take a leisurely beach walk beside a giant sandglass. Another option is to ride a Rail bike in Jeongdongjin for a different view of the sea and the tracks, or to spend the evening watching the Moonlight Art Show, where light and video create a night scene in Gangneung.
The September course recommended by Gangneung runs from Jeongdong and Simgok Badabuchaegil to Sandglass Park, Haslla Art World, and then the Moonlight Art Show. Visitors can enjoy the sea views at Badabuchaegil and Jeongdongjin during the day, explore the space where nature and art meet at Haslla Art World, and end the day with the Moonlight Art Show in the evening. The itinerary brings together coastal trekking, culture and art, and nighttime attractions in a single day.
Food is also part of the appeal. In Jeongdongjin and the southern area, visitors can try seafood stew packed with fresh seafood and bibimbap with cockles seasoned in a spicy sauce. Gangneung is also running a social networking service event linked to the recommended travel destinations. Visitors who post photos taken at the recommended spots on their personal accounts and verify them on the Visit Gangneung website will be entered into a drawing for souvenirs.
Bae Gwang-sik, Director of the Tourism Policy Division of Gangneung City, said, "The appeal of Badabuchaegil lies in walking between the cliffs and the sea and facing the East Sea up close," adding, "I hope visitors will tour Jeongdongjin and the southern attractions together and enjoy an early-autumn trip to Gangneung that combines walking, hands-on experiences, culture and art, and local food."
