【Financial News Wonju=Kim Gi-seop Reporter】The Wonju Sarang Gift Certificate will be expanded to 13 billion won ahead of the Chuseok holiday shopping season.
According to Wonju-si on the 28th, the September issuance, which will be larger than usual, will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Sept. 2. The goal is to channel increased holiday spending into sales for local small businesses and breathe new life into the sluggish commercial district.
In fact, the Wonju Sarang Gift Certificate has shown a clear effect in keeping spending within the region. From January to August this year, 61 billion won worth of certificates were sold, and 58.7 billion won, or 96% of the total, was spent at local merchants within a month. That means most of the money spent through the certificate circulated back into the local economy.
The issuance conditions will remain unchanged. The discount rate is 10%, and the monthly purchase limit per person is 300,000 won.
Wonju Mayor Gu Ja-yeol said, "I hope the increased holiday spending will lead to higher sales at local merchants and provide meaningful support for small business owners," adding, "We will continue to do our best to prepare support policies that help small businesses and other local economic players."
