[Financial News] At around 11:44 a.m. on the 28th, a fire caused by an explosion broke out at Daewon Industrial, a company in Dongnam District, Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province (Chungnam), killing three people and injuring two.
According to the Chungnam Fire Headquarters, authorities confirmed that they found one body near the fire scene and transported it to a hospital. After determining that two people, both foreign nationals, were missing, authorities launched a search for victims and later found two bodies believed to be the missing workers on the sixth floor of the factory building and on a staircase leading to the eighth floor.
Investigators said the first victim found was a worker in his 70s who worked in the company cafeteria.
In addition, one man in his 30s from Indonesia suffered burns, and one firefighter at the scene was injured after being struck on the wrist by falling debris.
The National Police Agency and fire authorities plan to continue searching for additional victims and assess the scale of the damage once the blaze is brought under control.
Daewon Industrial, where the fire broke out, manufactures fatty acids used in various industries, including paint raw materials, and operates its headquarters and plant in Cheonan.
Minister of the Interior and Safety Yun Ho-jung issued an emergency order to the National Fire Agency, the National Police Agency, South Chungcheong Province, Cheonan City and other relevant agencies, directing them to mobilize all available personnel and equipment for rescue operations and fire suppression.
He also instructed them to evacuate workers quickly and to prevent any safety accidents involving firefighters during the extinguishing operation. He ordered the police to fully secure the area around the fire scene.
