Phu Tho Province Reviews Urban Rail Line Linking to Hanoi Metro

[Hanoi, Vietnam = Correspondent Kim Jun-seok] Phu Tho Province in Vietnam plans to study some urban rail lines that would connect with the Hanoi Metro network as part of its 2026-2030 technology infrastructure development plan.
According to local media on the 28th, the Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee recently approved the province’s "2026-2030 technology infrastructure development plan" and decided to develop Phu Tho Province into a key growth hub in the Hanoi metropolitan area by 2030.
In the rail infrastructure sector, the plan includes a project to build the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Haiphong railway as a double-track standard-gauge line with a track width of 1,435 mm. It also calls for research into urban rail lines that could connect directly to the Hanoi Metro network.
Specifically, the province will examine a route running parallel to the existing Hanoi–Lao Cai railway and linking the Vinh Yen area in Phu Tho Province to Hanoi Metro Line 7 and Line 2, before continuing to Noi Bai International Airport. Another route under review would connect from Sao Bo Lake in Phu Tho Province to Hanoi Metro Line 9, pass through Line 7, and also reach Noi Bai International Airport.
The province also proposed reviewing an urban rail line in the Hoa Binh area of Phu Tho Province that would connect to Hanoi Metro Line 5 (Van Cao–Ngoc Khanh–Thang Long Boulevard–Ring Road 4–Hoa Lac). The plan aims to further strengthen regional transport links between Phu Tho Province and Hanoi.
In addition, Phu Tho Province plans to speed up investment preparations for new expressways and the expansion of national roads. For local roads, it intends to complete a transport network linking Vinh Phuc Province, Phu Tho Province and Hoa Binh, while prioritizing investment in roads that connect the wider regional network with industrial parks, tourist sites and major growth corridors.
