Death toll from Nepal and Tibet floods rises to 472, with 1,535 missing

[Financial News] The death toll from floods and landslides that struck the border area between Nepal and China on the 26th has climbed to nearly 500 in Nepal alone.

According to foreign media outlets including AP, Nepal's disaster authorities under the Ministry of Home Affairs said at 7:30 a.m. on the 28th that the death toll in Nepal had reached 469. Chitwan District recorded the highest number of deaths at 178. Other fatalities were confirmed in Nawalparasi East with 110, Gorkha District with 44, Nuwakot with 37, Dading with 33, Tanahun with 28, Nawalparasi (West of Bardaghat Susta) district with 27, and Rasuwa District with 12.
The number of missing people stands at 977, including 517 foreigners. The disaster has injured 73 people, 43 of them in Rasuwa alone. A total of 3,253 people have been rescued so far.

Around 8:37 a.m. on the 26th, a massive flood hit parts of Bagmati Province in north-central Nepal near the border with China. The flooding also triggered large-scale landslides on the Chinese side. On the 27th, Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television reported that a landslide in Gyirong County, Xigaze, in Tibet Autonomous Region the previous day had left three people dead and 558 missing as of 8 a.m. on the 27th. Among the missing, 260 were foreign nationals.
