Former President Park Geun-hye strongly called for unity within the ruling bloc and sincere performance of state duties at the People Power Party lawmakers' workshop on the 27th.
In her speech, Park stressed that "the most important thing in politics is trust," adding that "whatever we do, if we carry it out sincerely for the people, we can earn their trust and support."
Addressing views that question the limits of being a minor opposition party in a legislature dominated by the opposition, she said, "If you give up because you are a minor party and think there is nothing you can do, the public will give up on you too." She added, "If you face reality and work together with determination, you can become a majority party."
She then warned, using a metaphor, that "if the nest breaks, the eggs inside will not be safe," adding that "if the party's nest is shaken, the lawmakers' future will be the same."
Park also urged strong internal cohesion, saying, "When fighting an external enemy, there is no more frightening foe than internal division." She added that "different opinions may emerge, but we must not hate or deny one another; we must unite."
