Korea University Selected for 6 Humanities and Social Sciences Group Research Projects Under Ministry of Education Program... 18.9 Billion Won in Funding

[Financial News]  Korea University (KU) has been selected for six projects in the "2026 New Group Research Projects in the Humanities and Social Sciences" program, jointly overseen by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). The total research funding amounts to about 18.9 billion won.
The largest project is the "Convergent Research for Understanding Social Isolation Across the Life Cycle and Restoring Social Connections," led by the KU Mind Health Research Institute. Korea University's Institute on Aging, Kyung Hee University's Global Ryukyu-Okinawa Research Institute, and Musashino University's Institute of Human Sciences will participate. The project will receive 10 billion won over five years as a consortium-type global humanities and social sciences convergence research program.
The Language Information Research Institute was selected for an overseas project under the global humanities and social sciences convergence research institute support track. Together with Tohoku University Cognitive Neuroscience Application Center (CoNAC), it will combine linguistics, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence (AI) to study human language intelligence and evaluation systems. The project will receive about 4.85 billion won over six years.
A research team led by Professor Kim Hee-jung from the Department of Mathematics Education will study changes in mathematical reasoning and discourse driven by the spread of AI, as well as the role of teachers. A team led by Professor Park Sung-chul from the Department of Health Policy and Management will compare regional medical disparities in Korea, the United States, and Japan, and examine policy and AI-based intervention measures. Each project will receive about 820 million won over three years.
A research team led by Professor Son Seung-hyun from the Department of Education was selected for the Social Science Korea (SSK) Program and will address educational opportunities and exclusion issues arising in digital education curricula. The project will receive about 480 million won over three years.
A research team led by Professor Jeong Jae-rim from the Department of Korean Language Education was selected for a humanities and social sciences research institute support project tied to education. The team will study a Korean language education model and curriculum development for the AI era. The project will receive about 1.94 billion won over six years. The six selected projects will begin research on the first day of next month.
