HUG Inspects Construction Sites in Asan Halted by Work Suspension, Checks Typhoon and Heat Risks

[Financial News] Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG) inspected the preparedness of construction sites where guarantee-related work has been suspended for typhoon and heat-wave risks. The inspection focused on possible flooding, facility collapse, electrical leaks and unauthorized entry at sites with few on-site workers.
HUG said on the 28th that Lee Myeong-won, standing auditor at HUG, carried out a special inspection on the 26th at the Arni First site in Bangchuk-dong, Asan, South Chungcheong Province, to prevent serious accidents.
Construction at the site has been halted due to an incident involving a lease deposit guarantee, leaving only limited personnel to manage the location. As a result, flooding, collapse of temporary structures and electrical leaks could occur during typhoons or heavy rain, and the site may also be vulnerable to unauthorized access by outsiders.
The inspection checked safety management practices and emergency disaster response systems under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. It also reviewed flood-prevention facilities such as drainage channels, the securing of temporary structures, and rest areas for security workers to help prevent heat-related illness.
The latest inspection follows an on-site review last month of three guarantee-related projects, including Korea Adelium in Sugi-dong, Gwangju.
Lee said, "Typhoons and heavy rain can cause major damage to construction sites even in a short period of time, so it is most important to identify and remove risk factors in advance."
HUG plans to link inspections by its management and audit divisions to identify disaster risks at guarantee-related projects nationwide and strengthen on-site management to prevent serious accidents and protect contractors' property and construction assets.
