Lee Jae-myung administration to report special measures after abolishing breach of trust charges to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee

    [Financial News, Seoul and Incheon = Kim Yun-ho, Lee Hae-ram]The Lee Jae-myung administration plans to report to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly an alternative that would abolish breach of trust charges while introducing special provisions for property crimes. It is moving to revive a proposal it has pursued since last year to eliminate breach of trust charges in support of businesses.
Seo Young-kyo, chair of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, and ruling party floor spokesperson Kim Seung-won told reporters on the 28th during a lawmakers' workshop at Inspire Hotel & Resort in Incheon that they had received a report from the Ministry of Justice on the plan to abolish breach of trust charges.
Kim said, "Yesterday (the 27th), we were told by Vice Minister of Justice Lee Jin-su that the ministry is working on a package centered on special provisions for property crimes," adding, "We were also told that once it is finalized, it will be reported to the committee."
Separately from the government proposal, the Democratic Party of Korea is also preparing its own plan. The party and the government aim to finalize a joint proposal after the report to the committee. Kim said, "We will make sure breach of trust charges do not become an obstacle when companies make bold investments."
